Papier-Mâché
COLLABORATIVE PIÑATA

Joined by my partner and our family, I embarked on a creative and fun journey of making a giant papier mâché piñata. Although I showed the others the basic steps of creating with papier-mâché, this was a beautiful collaboration amongst the group. We combined flour, water, and craft glue to concoct a thick, sticky paste that became the foundation of our creation. We layered paper bags and vibrant tissue paper onto a giant balloon, gradually transforming it into a colorful globe.

One feature that made this piñata unique was its substantial weight of 40 pounds. To ensure its durability, we devised a support system using a child's umbrella as the internal structure. We repurposed the umbrella's sturdy arms to provide stability and reinforcement. We also added faux flower garlands and decorative ribbons to make it embody the appearance of a jellyfish, with a spring-like aesthetic.
When the time came to fill our piñata with surprises, we eagerly gathered an assortment of candies and small prizes. Then we sealed the piñata, ensuring that its contents remained hidden until the perfect moment. Easter arrived, and our creation took center stage, becoming an unforgettable family bonding activity. The younger members of the family eagerly awaited their turn to take a swing at the piñata, armed with an array of tools. We even added the extra challenging element of having each person who would hit the piñata wear a sumo suit.

With each joyful strike, the piñata danced, impressing everyone with its resilience. Eventually, after a series of enthusiastic whacks, the piñata burst open, showering the ground with treats and laughter.
