Fantasy Self Portraits

This project, “Fantasy Self Portraits,” is a sample of some of the artistic work that I created during the 2020 lockdown. I wanted to remain creatively stimulated during this strange time, and I needed a mental escape from the confines of my small apartment. 

I carefully selected my own wardrobe, including a white, flowing gown, a crystal crown, and specific props, such as a large conch shell. I also styled the scene surrounding me, and set it all up to my liking- utilizing my porch as a studio. 

With my camera connected to my computer via a tethering cord, I was able to shoot the scene myself using a timer, positioning myself in the scene to model my vision. 

Crafting this styled self-portrait was a wonderful release during a time of uncertainty. I may have been confined to my small living space physically, but through creativity, I was able to transport myself to another world. To me, this series the boundless possibilities that unfold when art becomes an extension of one's true self.
