This project is a collection of three distinct handcrafted masks, which I made using papier mâché as the base material, and then embellished with a combination of decorations. Each mask is designed to convey a different mood, representing a personal exploration of emotions and experiences.

The first mask, adorned with lush greenery, paper leaves, and nature-themed stickers, channels my constant longing to be immersed in nature, and the deep connection I feel with Mother Earth. The second mask was inspired by feelings of tranquility, and is adorned with delicate butterflies, shimmering gems, and soft blue feathers. It symbolizes a state of being creatively stimulated and feeling liberated. Lastly, the black and white mask, which is adorned with swirling patterns of black gems and bold black feathers, is a statement on the element of duality as a part of the human experience.

I believe that masks have potential as a therapeutic tool. Wearing a mask in a therapy setting and obscuring one's face can provide a sense of freedom and anonymity.  In addition, the process of creating these masks and styling them to convey specific emotions or moods was a therapeutic outlet that I personally found very enjoyable and introspective. I could see assisting future clients with making many masks, each for an emotion, as an art therapy project- and then allowing clients to wear those masks during talk therapy to help convey the way they are feeling.
